But It's Not You
By Dave
I've seen you in a thousand places,
Seen you in a thousand faces —
A fleeting smile, a glance, a sigh,
I reach for you, but you pass by.
I've felt you near yet you're afar,
A whisper riding on a star —
Your voice, your breath, a shadow's hue,
I turn to look — but it's not you.
I've traced your shape in clouds at dawn,
In footprints left where you've long gone —
A fleeting form that melts away,
Yet lingers softly through the day.
I've walked through crowds and caught your scent,
Familiar as a childhood spent —
For one sharp breath, my world rewinds,
But still, you're only in my mind.
You drift like smoke, you fade like light,
You brush against me in the night —
A constant ghost that won't break through,
I keep finding you... but it's not you.
